ELECTIONS / NOMINATIONS


The nomination procedures are based upon the current Constitution/By-Laws adopted by the membership of the International Camping Fellowship at a meeting in Washington D.C., USA in February 2002. They are attached to the ICF By-Laws approved in February 2011. A full copy of these By-Laws is available upon request from ICF Headquarters.

The Executive Committee shall be composed of President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The Executive Committee shall be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organiza­tion (ICF) and perform all duties related thereto. The term of service shall be to the next ICF-endorsed International Camping Congress.

The Board shall be composed of the Executive Committee, at least 6 Committee Chairs and at least 4 Members-at-Large. Ex-Officio Members shall include Past-President (if serving), President-Elect (if elected), the next Congress Chair (or designate) and any other such appointments as the Board deems appropriate.

Candidates for President, Treasurer, Secretary, Members-at-large must be current, Full Members, and may be nominated by any other current, Full Member. Nominees must be able to commit to the following service obligations:
  1. The ability to fund travel to one (1) Board meeting annually
  2. The ability to work and contribute in English or to provide such translation support as needed
  3. The time and resources for such duties as may be defined and developed by the Board

Three (3) Members-at-Large are elected by a vote of all available Amssadors at or before the General Assembly held at an International Camping Congress. This election is conducted after the election and appointment of other members of the next term’s Board and Ambassadors. It is usually conducted as part of the General Assembly of Ambassadors at an International Camping Congress.

Ambassadors are ICF Members elected, acclaimed or appointed from within each country by the ICF membership of that country. If more than one nomination is submitted, then an election is conducted. If only one candidate is nominated, the candidate is acclaimed. If there are no nominations from a country, the Chair of the Ambassador Committee will seek out an appointment.

Ambassadors should be able to commit to the following obligations:
  1. Recruit additional ICF Full Members within their country.
  2. Assist in forging links amongst members, nationally and internationally, including the exchange of campers and camp staff.
  3. Supply news and information from the country to ICF on a regular basis.
  4. Survey known information on organized camping and outdoor experience in their country.
  5. Disseminate information on international camping and ICF programs and services.
  6. Serve as a member of the ICF General Assembly at the next International Camping Congress/
  7. Secure regional co-ordinators within the country when appropriate.
  8. Assist in the work if the ICF in other ways as requested to do the work of ICF.

Executive Officers
shall be a President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice-President. These first three officers shall be elected by the Full Membership before the Board meeting held in the year before the Congress. The Vice-President is an appointed position chosen from amongst the Board Members by the Board Members.

A nomination form is distributed to all current, Full Members. Other elections and appointments may be held on modified timelines in the period leading up to the Congress.

The Nomination Form (President) must be completed and returned to ICF Headquarters. If more than one nomination is received for any given position, the current Past President or designate formulates a ballot of all persons nominated, along with biographical infor­mation and photograph, and sends or posts the material to each current, Full Member.

The Nomination Form (Secretary) must be completed and returned to ICF Headquarters. If more than one nomination is received for any given position, the current Past President or designate formulates a ballot of all persons nominated, along with biographical infor­mation and photograph, and sends or posts the material to each current, Full Member.

The Nomination Form (Members at Large) must be completed and returned to ICF Headquarters. If more than one nomination is received for any given position, the current Past President or designate formulates a ballot of all persons nominated, along with biographical infor­mation and photograph, and sends or posts the material to each current, Full Member.

Voting in an election, if necessary, is completed by each eligible Full Member and results are returned to the ICF Office, Canada by a designated date before a Congress. Results are announced promptly thereafter with direct notification of all candidates and the current Board as well as with a general announcement on the ICF website.

Nominations for Members-at-Large are held in abeyance until the main elections for both Board Positions and Ambassadors is complete. Only Ambassadors in good standing may vote for the three (3) Members-at-Large position.

The current President convenes and chairs a meeting of the current Board to discuss the make-up of the new Board and organize the steps toward elections of Members-at Large at a General Assembly before the next Congress. In order to further balance representation, the Executive reserves the right to appoint at least one (1) Member-at-Large. This appointment may or may not be from available unelected nominations.

New Board members may attend any meetings as ex-officio but assume their duties immediately after the Congress. The Board holds a meeting as soon after the Congress as is practical.
